Here we are again - doing it all again, renovation, DIY, interior design (of sorts)! Faced with a room, half done - boarded and has electrics in the task should be easy you'd think - NO, not at all! The room has been left to become damp by it's previous occupier and what a state it is in! Well, along comes Miss Boudoir® to the rescue. It was a hard decision to make - is this room worth it, worth the hassle and all the problems I face to get it to a decent condition? Yes, it's just going to take some fixing, some patience (I've been patient since January, fixing leaks and waiting for an entire lift shaft to dry out), lots of money and vision. This page will be updated as I go along - slowly, most likely but you'll hopefully start to see the gradual changes!

September 2007 - What it was - A damp sort of art gallery/studio!!
The viewing - clutter, mess, stuff - not my stuff! |
More clutter and "The Wall - The Problem". Behind that board is a bricked up shaft. It would have been the hoist back when the mill was in use. There is damp all over it, as you can see and the problem wasn't just a leaking roof as I discovered later, it's inside the shaft, the water has been running in and down for years and years!

The Wall.
The damp wall!! Why hide a problem with a board? |
Moss. |
More moss! Moss no more though! |
The work starts!!

12/03/2008 - Plaster is being removed from the right and left hand sides of the back wall. Tree growing at the top of window is about to have it's days ended. |
Another view of plaster coming off and carpet/sheets of board being taken up gradually. Floor near the wall has been damp and needs removing. |
Mother attacking plaster!
The brick and stone underneath is so much nicer. |
Plaster Mum
Plaster Em (a very rare shot of me) |
Plaaaaaaaster. |
Some more evidence of destruction.
Mini room inside the unit - will be my walk in hair and make-up/dressing room.
Another view of mini room that is full of junk. |
Carpet and boarding being removed.
Had a lovely gentleman come and take a look at the brickwork with a view to taking that bricked up, white bit out, checking what is behind and then bricking it back up "properly" not just some bricks shoved in like it was. Anyway, behind the board - scary old, dark shaft with a very long way down!
A view up - just a tray at the top and lots of wet brick and stone!
The right hand side of the shaft, the wet wall. It was seeping out of the wall from here |
The little ledge inside then a drop - 4 floors down! |
A very old sprinkler system that was left inside the shaft!
| Progress will be updated documented as it unfolds. Watch this space, more pictures coming soon!!
